Sony Corporation to enter the market of Virtual Reality Gear



Sony Corporation is known as a Japanese multinational composite organization. It is commonly labeled as “Sony”. The company generally focuses on entertainment, games, electronics, and financial services sectors. The company is considered as the leading manufacturer of electronic products in the world which covers the consumers market as well as the professional market. Recently, Sony is looking forward to challenging Facebook. The company has failed to compete against the strong market of Apple and Samsung in such a long time hence, the company officials believe that it will bolster its status and market position amid the launch of PlayStation 4. Hence, it is an attempt by the company to challenge Facebook in virtual reality gear.
Sony had precisely planned the construct the console in a way which would cater the needs of a hardcore gamer; moreover it will act as a powerhouse of entertainment for its buyers. Hence, the company is planning on to unveil and launch the virtual reality headset for the gamers and the gaming market. It is named as “Project Morpheus”.

Project Morpheus

The project Morpheus headsets were unveiled by the company at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It is a fact that Sony Corporation is a strong dominant force in the gaming market in terms of video gaming consoles hence this project will be a boost for them to regain its market position and investors. The bitter rival and only competitor that Sony can face is the newly acquired Oculus VR Inc. by Facebook, the reality goggles.

Sony attracting non gamers as well

Sony believes that it will be able to attract non gamers market as well with the launch of Project Morpheus as the video gaming consoles are bolstered with virtual reality ready fare. The CEO of the company has said, “To succeed, PlayStation needs to expand its user base”. Hence, they are looking forward to do so. The company has also planned to cater all its customers and consumers needs in order to give a tough competition to its rivals which are Apple, Samsung, Google, and recently, Facebook.
However, the television segment is not doing well for many years now, therefore, the only source of survival is the video gaming console sector which is generating higher revenues. Ever since the launch of PlayStation 4, about 7 million units have already been sold and there are more than 100 million PlayStations operating worldwide.

Conclusion

Despite of losing its television segment for which it was known most of, the company is now looking to bolster its status and market position through console video gaming segment. Hence, they believe that Project Morpheus will be beneficial for them and will bring back the market it had once as they are trying to create the market for gamers and non-gamers both.
